Product Description

Marked size 16, 40" bust. 50" from top/back of neckline to hem.

This is really an usual dress. First of course it is a quintessential Hawaiian pattern with the King's procession at the bottom, tons of outriggers in the water and the Mountains/Volcano in the background. The pattern is well placed all around the dress and it's truly a masterpiece.

However, on closer inspection the rarity of the dress is revealed when a few strange looking figures are featured at the bottom. One is clearly Lincoln and presumably his wife is next to him. There is indeed a history and a deep connection between Lincoln and an early Hawaii and, more specifically, between himself and King Kamehameha. Lincoln personally reached out to King Kamehameha V to express his condolences on the death of his Brother (IV) in 1864. To this day the Hawaiian Government and people hold a deep attachment to Lincoln and express it or quote him on many occasions and most recently during their Bicentennial.

This is one of those great dresses that not only is a fantastic Vintage lounge piece but also one of those pieces that belongs with a Vintage nut who loves to have that little "edge" with regards to the history/rarity of the pieces she wears.

Attached waist tie/bow and in what could possibly be unworn condition.
